The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) has honored Dennis M. Echelbarger, CPA of Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co., P.C. with the MACPA 2006 Chair’s Service Award.

An MACPA member for 39 years and past chair of the board, Echelbarger has played a pivotal role in the Association’s development of alliances with numerous organizations including Junior Achievement, the State Bar of Michigan and the National Association of Black Accountants. He also participated in the initiation of progressive legislation that allowed CPAs to expand the services they offer and attract experts in other fields to firms. Echelbarger’s efforts have helped strengthen the CPA voice in Lansing and influence the way state government affects business and the CPA profession.

Echelbarger serves as a Trustee of the Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF), which is affiliated with the MACPA, where he works with fellow officers and a Board of Trustees to provide scholarships for deserving fifth/graduate year accounting students who aspire to become CPAs. He is also a member of the MACPA Political Action Committee Board and the Mid-Size & Large Firm Forum – West Michigan. He was honored by the MACPA with the Distinguished Service Award in 2001.

Echelbarger is the founder and President of Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co., P.C. (EHTC) in Grand Rapids. Prior to founding EHTC, he spent 11 years as an employee and partner at a local CPA firm and four years as the CFO of several manufacturing and wholesaling companies. Echelbarger also taught at Davenport College and for the MACPA.

At his firm, Echelbarger acts as an advisor and consultant to numerous small and medium-size businesses and nonprofit organization in the areas of finance, acquisition, merger and sale. He is an active business valuator with businesses covering the areas of service, professional, retail, finance, construction, wholesale, real estate and manufacturing.

Echelbarger was presented with the MACPA 2006 Chair’s Service Award at the MACPA Awards Dinner on October 4 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) has honored Edward S. Kisscorni, CPA, MBA, with the MACPA 2006 Chair’s Service Award for his unwavering commitment to the proper oversight of the CPA profession.

Since 1987, Kisscorni has served three state governors in various appointed capacities involving the regulation of the accounting industry in Michigan. Most recently, he served as chair of the Michigan State Board of Accountancy, which is responsible for the certification and licensure of certified public accountants and public accounting firms in Michigan. Prior to that appointment, he served as vice chair of the Administrative Committee on Public Accountancy.

In his role as chair of the State Board, Kisscorni was instrumental in the independent review of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which required the development of legislative initiatives to implement accountancy reform in Michigan. Kisscorni helped to develop recommendations, which were ultimately drafted as legislation as passed by the Michigan Legislature and signed by the Governor in 2005.

Kisscorni serves on the MACPA Board of Directors, Tax Restructuring and State and Local Tax task forces. He also serves on the MACPA Mid-Size and Large Firm Forum-West Michigan. In addition, Kisscorni has been a frequent speaker at MACPA events and has been involved as an accounting firm reviewer for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Peer Review Program.

Kisscorni is Director of State & Local Taxation at Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co., P.C. (EHTC) in Grand Rapids. He has extensive experience in Michigan state and local taxation as an auditor with the Michigan Department of Treasury, in the tax department of an international CPA firm, as a sole practitioner, and in the state and local tax group of a national CPA firm. His practice areas include Consultation and Planning in State and Local Taxation and Litigation Support in the areas of State and Local Taxation and Accountant’s Legal Liability.

Kisscorni earned his B.B.A. degree from Western Michigan University and his M.B.A. degree from Grand Valley State University.

David G. Echelbarger, CPA has been honored by The CPA Technology Advisor as one of the top forty “Movers, Shakers, and Thought Leaders of Tomorrow.” Echelbarger was elected to this elite group based on his contributions to the field of public accounting and the considerable respect of his peers. Nominators of the 40 leaders believe that this group will help lead the accounting and tax profession now and shape its use of technology over time.

According to Echelbarger, “We are seeing the effects of a global economy. Geography will not limit who we serve. We are going to see more and more electronic transmission and storage of data. With access to real-time data and reporting, you will see additional information being published. And I see customer portals being a differentiator for CPA firms.”

EHTC Technology Solutions, a Microsoft Gold Certified Business Partner, today announced the newest release of its integration solution, lnfuse 360 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 and Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.5. Dynamics CRM 3.0 (formerly Microsoft CRM) is a customer relationship management system and Dynamics SL 6.5 is the most recent release of the Solomon enterprise resource planning, back office system. Now the two disparate systems can work as one integrated solution.

The Eastern Report Acceptance Body of the Peer Review Task Force accepted the report on the most recent peer review of Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co., P.C, the related letter of comments, and our firm’s response thereto.  The reviewer’s opinion was unmodified. EHTC's Technology Solutions Division was recently recognized by Accounting Today magazine as one of the country’s Top 100 Technology Pacesetters in 2004. EHTC was selected based on recognition by peers and business partners as a leader and innovator in the accounting technology field.

Dennis M. Echelbarger, CPA was recently awarded his CPA Ambassador Pin at the MACPA’s Recognition and Awards Dinner. The CPA Ambassador program mobilizes CPAs as highly trained and influential spokespeople who highlight the contributions, expertise and integrity of the certified public accountant within local communities. He earned his pin due to his participation in a radio talk show on financial literacy and also for serving as a resource for a newspaper article on tax issues. Dennis is one of the first Michigan CPAs to achieve CPA Ambassador status.

David G. Echelbarger, CPA has been selected by Business Direct Weekly as one of West Michigan's Top Business Leaders under the age of 40.  The leaders were chosen based on questions ranging from basic background information -- where they went to school, what awards have they won, volunteer work -- to information about their current place of work and their own philosophies on business. The article featuring Dave and 41 other top business leaders in this region under the age of 40 appeared in BDW's publication on March 4, 2004.
