Ethan F. Rickelmann, CPA joined Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co., P.C. (EHTC) in 2014 as a tax intern and became a staff accountant in August 2015. In 2017, he received his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification and was promoted to Senior Staff Accountant; in 2019 Ethan was promoted to Manager. Ethan graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Science in Accounting. As a second generation CPA, Ethan never planned to go the accounting route in college but the team at EHTC is glad he did!
Ethan’s role within EHTC has grown in the six years he has been a team member. He is primarily involved with corporations - those with an 1120 or 1120S filing status. He reviews the tax returns for corporations on the federal and state levels and works with companies that have filing requirements in all fifty states. Ethan has also completed hundreds of Form 8594, which is an Asset Acquisition Statement for companies who are buying or selling a group of assets. He is able to assist with these asset deals, where the original owner(s) still own the business but the assets are purchased by another company, as well as stock deals, where different owners have purchased the company stock. By utilizing special software for accountants, Ethan is able to stay up-to-date with the filing requirements for these companies and is able to provide consultation to these clients in regards to buying and selling. He also reviews tax returns for clients of EHTC – from local companies to individuals – in order to keep the tax season moving forward for clients and their returns. Ethan also plays a key role in the fall internship recruitment process, where he works with the EHTC team to select local college students to join the team for the next year’s busy season from January through April.
Away from the office, Ethan is involved in many different activities. He plays in both indoor and outdoor leagues for soccer and enjoys other sports such as volleyball through the Grand Rapids Sports and Social Club. He reads many books and takes trips to the numerous West Michigan beaches and bars. Doing any of these activities with friends and family is what Ethan truly enjoys. The entire team at EHTC is proud of Ethan’s growth from an intern to where he is today, and are excited to see what the future holds for him!
