On May 18, 2016, the Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division published their final rule regarding overtime regulations. These update the so-called “white collar” exemptions in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and automatically extend overtime pay protections to over 4 million workers. Employees who meet the duties and salary requirements set forth are exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the FLSA. The new regulations will take effect on December 1, 2016.
