Come Work for EHTC, Where You’ll Combine Your Talents with a Sense of Purpose

At EHTC, we understand there’s more to life than just work. We also know that having a career with meaning is important not just to today’s younger generations, but all generations. That’s why we strive to be bigger than just the job we do. In a recent post we told you a little about who we are, what we do, and why we’re a great place to work. Let’s go beyond the office walls and look at how EHTC gives back to the community and how we form strong bonds with our colleagues in our free time.

As a corporate citizen, EHTC strongly believes in being a good neighbor and strengthening the Grand Rapids area where we live and do business. We encourage our team members to be active in the community, to join organizations, and to take pride in giving back. We facilitate these efforts by hosting a number of initiatives that our staff can take part in.

Since 1987, we’ve held an annual charity golf outing called Chipping for Charity. This event combines a day of golf, fun, and camaraderie with fundraising for a worthy, local non-profit organization. Participants have the option to golf, attend the reception, sponsor a sign at one of the tees, donate to the charity, or donate door prizes.

In 2022, we selected Beer City Dog Biscuits as the recipient. They provide weekly vocational training for 200-plus adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Beer City Dog Biscuits believes all people, regardless of their abilities, enrich our community and, without their presence our community and workplaces, would be incomplete.

Each year, we also coordinate a Day of Caring, which allows our team members to volunteer at a local organization we’ve chosen based on current needs in the community. Because this event has received so much support and enthusiasm from staff, we’ve recently expanded to host the event twice a year. This year, Days of Caring took place at Kids Food Basket/Kent County Farm and Calvin Ecosystems Preserve and Native Gardens.

Throughout the year, we initiate other charitable activities, including a March Madness bracket-style tournament in which a large sum of the proceeds go to Great Sports, Great Kids, a local organization that develops student athletes by fostering athletic programs. And, during the holiday season, EHTC participates in Volunteers of America Michigan’s Adopt-a-Family program. Over time, we’ve been able to adopt multiple Grand Rapids area families, providing food, toys, clothing, and funds to those in need—and bringing them greater joy in the season.

Since 2015, we’ve raised nearly $115, 000 for local organizations. In addition to Beer City Dog Biscuits and Great Sports, Great Kids, we’ve donated our event proceeds to Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth, Urban Family Ministries, Children with Hair Loss, Women's Resource Center, and Ele's Place.

We also believe in creating opportunities for team building and fellowship, which, in turn, foster a sense of friendship and belonging that’s so important to achieving positive company culture. From ice cream socials to birthday parties; summer sports to happy hours, we celebrate together regularly. With everything we do, we strive to strike a balance between  hard work and fun, while growing each team member to reach their full potential.
